Tara's Interlude: Why Can't Guys Be Funny?

calenril_i

"What if they gave a war, and only one side came?" -- Satan

tara_mystic

Reading the past 50 posts made me wonder, "Why can't guys be as funny as us?" You guys are just way too serious. Lighten up a little. It's not like you are from Mars or have a name called Satan, like that last guy who posted.

grin

I find that I can't write humor, but that I'm a fair straight man. I accept your criticism, but you are not being fair to some of the others. Consider the postings of shindorim7 as Jack in the Lizardmen adventure and just about anything from eickeric, who writes for the inexplicably funny Michael of the Midnight Magicks [sic].

As for your plea for levity, I made the same plea a couple of weeks ago and got only a small response. Perhaps it was the holiday.

The imaginary quote from Satan is a joke from the Myth comedy fantasy novel series by Robert Asprin. That quote is funny (I think) but also contains a very serious commentary about war and unrestrained military power.

Hey! I'm way funnier than that eickeric/Michael of the Midnight Magicks [sic] guy.... Besides, no one really thinks he's a real guy. Everyone thinks some Hobbit is playing him. Argh, I have a headache; I need a couple Robert Aspirins [sic].

jaxdracon

Enchantée, Tara!

Why don't you join in the Adventure and show us grave gauchos how it's done? :0

Sinseriously,

Jax "Waiting for eickeric to redeem us" Dracon

I think the quote also speaks volumes about the war against evil itself, as in the battle between morality, correctness and holiness vs. the pushers of evil. As in, if folk of all ilks stand by and let things happen without contesting them or standing up for what is right, evil will prevail.

As for levity, hmm. So, these two Orcs walked into a bar. <BAM> Hey, you'd think one of them would've seen it! <sigh>

So, whattaya get when you put Gore and Lieberman in your basement? A whine cellar?

Taran is trying to be more Orcish of late, after some comments last adventure about how he wasn't Orcy enough. But never fear, he tries to inject humor whenever he can.

Well, Tara, I hope you take the responses with good spirit. Jax means it, and the others will mean it too---new players are always welcomed, here, just as I was. We lost a lot when desuma_malevois had to drop out, and I have felt that much of it was the loss of the female half of the Domina-Desuma duo. We are no longer an all-male playing group with the addition of Freya, but we still need more balance, and your input would be a big help. Come on, help us create this new story.

Taran, you did all my work for me; this lazy wizard thanks you kindly. As for political humor, I personally avoid it, since its interpretation as humor depends so much on the viewpoint of the listener. Perhaps it depends on whether you are a connoisseur of fine whines. ;-)

Hey, I'm a chick and I'm dull as a stale turd.

tara_mystic

A friend of mine told me I had been Archived in Oblique Streams©. Very odd, I never felt a thing. I suppose I should thank someone or not. I believe my fellow female (shindorim7) offered the best and last remark:

Hi Tara!

We continue to be endebted to your contributions here at the BFT. In fact, even as recent as post #1140 (eickeric), some of us in the Streams adventure continue to refer back to your interlude, making it essential for the Archivist to include it for completeness.

The theme of your interlude finds meaning in a broader context: rare threads like "Why Can't Guys Be Funny?" are the spice of this club, and we could use more of them. How else are we going to get more priceless lines like that out of Shindorim? ;)
